R2-D2 sits behind the cockpit made from Maple. From tip to tail, the ship measures 16\" with a wingspan of 10\". It's cruising over the city of Theed having just left it's hangar on its way into battle. Below, a miniature version of another Starfighter can be seen leaving the hangar as well. The city below sits atop a Walnut cliff which has been textured and covered in greenery to resemble the actual cliffs from this scene. The buildings sit on a foundation of Cherry and are themselves carved from Sapele. The rooves of each structure are covered with a dyed veneer. The river running through the city leading to a waterfall and another river below is poured from blue resin and has been textured with a clear Mod Podge to give the illusion of running water. The legs are fixed in place to prevent collapse but the head can be full removed allowing for it to swivel freely and be set in any direction desired. A set of screws is included which must be threaded into the feet from the underside of the base to prevent it from falling over.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe base itself is carved from a large slab of Walnut with a footprint of approximately 12\"x18\". A handful of resin puddles dot the surface as well as hand-carved\/textured logs and stumps. An arrangement of plants and ground cover bring life to the environment. Two storm troopers can be seen defending the walker and they have both been 3-D printed and hand-painted in house. A downed trooper's helmet sits on the slope and an Ewok's hand-carved slingshot is also visible. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCarver's Note: This piece tested my patience on a whole new level. Taking the time to ensure that each segment of the leg would meet up perfectly with the next to allow the entire thing to come together and more surprisingly, stand on its own! (although allowing it to stand without the screws underneath to secure it is NOT recommended). At least 50-60 hours have been sunk into this project resulting in (and I know I say this every time) what I believe to be my greatest creation yet. Made primarily from Maple, the ship also features Padauk inlays with its signature red color as well as details made from Sapele, Walnut, Black Wenge, Poplar assorted veneers. The ball turrets are resin spheres and the front ball turrets can be rotated over a specified range of motion. The ship measures approximately 12\" in length and when the piece is fully assembled, it stands around 13\" atop the clear support rod which seems to vanish at certain angles.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat brings us to the base. The vast landscape below is made from Sapele which has been hand-carved and textured and features numerous spires and is dotted with Hardcell Class transports made from Maple. Starting at the front, the hangar bay doors, made from Bloodwood, can be slid open to reveal the Walnut-floored hangar bay underneath. When they are slid closed again, a pair of magnets holds either side in place. A set of insignias are inlayed beside the hangar bay made from Bloodwood and Orange Osage and lit by an LED (batteries included). As you work you way back, hand-turned\/carved turrets line either side of the central tower until you reach the strips of Bloodwood inlays on the rear \"wings\" of the ship. Driving the ship forward are a set of 8 boosters which have been individually hand-turned and highlighted with blue resin inlays inside. Along the side of the ship, you'll find another hangar bay, this one with a shield covering it made from blue resin and this one is lit from inside by a blue LED (batteries included). The battery pack can be accessed from underneath by unscrewing the panel behind the switch itself. The entire ship is supported by acrylic rods that feed down into the Coruscant-themed base below. The base is made from an old growth Redwood burl which could be upwards of 1000 years old and has been carved and decorated with sprawling lines of yellow resin.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis behemoth reaches 22.5\" in length with a wingspan of 11.5\". When set on the base, the model stands 11\" tall.
